In an exclusive interview, Reet Härmat engaged in a discussion with Kristiina Kullo, Co-Founder of Sisbond.
I’ve known Reet for years and when I thought about beauty and cosmetics experts in Estonia within the Sisbond framework, the first person who came to mind was wonderful Reet Härmat.
It’s admirable how she always looks radiant with effortless elegance in every situation, yet remains warmly simple and positive. I always know that if I have any beauty-related questions, Reet definitely knows the answer.
Meet Reet, a makeup artist, entrepreneur, presenter, influencer, whose life is constantly in flux. Reet recently co-launched a new brand DODICI with her business partner which is available in our online store.
Reet talks about the secret of her eternal youth – the golden rule is drinking pure water and definitely avoiding smoking and unhealthy lifestyles. You have to take care of your skin and constant moisturizing is very important. You also have to pay attention, for example, if your skin has problems, you need to deal with it immediately and consistently take care of yourself. Eating organically is also very important to me. A decade ago, it was quite a challenge to fill the shopping cart with organically grown and produced foods but today it’s easy with a diverse selection available. I love cooking at home, I rarely dine out with only exceptions when traveling abroad.”
Having tried all beauty procedures herself, Reet’s stance is, “Now I’ve come full circle back to naturalness and nature. I’ve realized that the main thing is to support beauty from within. However, it’s still a bit of an ‘almost’ when it comes to hair extensions because I like to feel good.”
“Taking care of oneself and inner balance are part of my daily routine and it provides a kind of backbone. When you look good and radiant, life flows more pleasantly.”
Reet is mother for a cool adult son and single. I really like her viewpoint that it’s better to be alone than to compromise in a relationship. “During sadder periods, I have the support of friends and family. I’m not alone because I’m worse or inferior. Rather I’m proud of myself for not settling for mediocrity,” she reflects.
Dreaming of a life free from obligations, I would cultivate charitable projects in case of winning the lottery and travel around the world. I prefer direct flights to rest while considering the environment and as a daughter of a captain, the journey could easily be by ship – the higher the waves, the more fun. I also have experience with motorcycle trips.
Charity has been relevant in my life at various times. I believe every individual should contribute to society/environment to make it better if possible. I’ve had the opportunity to assist various projects at the Tallinn Children’s Safety Center for over 11 years.
I’m grateful that in 2021, through The Body Shop Estonia, I was able to participate in an important protest in Brussels against animal testing in the cosmetics industry. It’s a global problem – over 80% of countries don’t have laws banning animal testing of ingredients or products in the cosmetics industry. Despite reliable alternatives, animal suffering for the sake of cosmetics continues. According to Cruelty Free International, over 500,000 animals are used annually for cosmetic testing. Fortunately, the European Union has banned such horrific practices, but, for example, China is steadily progressing in this area – furthermore, products from other countries that haven’t been tested on animals are not allowed to be sold in its market. Strength to organizations fighting for a greener and better cosmetics world. I bow deeply to organizations like Cruelty Free, Vegan, Leaping Bunny, PETA, Zeromission, TakingRoot Enracine, Plan Vivo, all of which are making the cosmetics industry more humane and greener.
I’m concerned about global urbanization and distancing from nature, which has turned our everyday cosmetics into something containing too many artificial ingredients. Unfortunately, too little is said about the fact that with daily use of conventional cosmetics, synthetic additives are absorbed into our bloodstream through the skin, causing allergies and other health issues. It has been proven that only cosmetics derived from pure nature have the most powerful effect because the more natural and pure the raw material and the less processed it is, the stronger its positive effect on the skin. My mission is to raise awareness among people about cosmetic ingredients and to popularize the importance of pure cosmetics.
One important quality I value in myself is the ability to bring people together and make connections. Together, we can do much more good and create; every “drop” counts.
